PlattenBaum was founded by Kerem Halbrecht and Maayan Strauss, both trained as architects and have experience of more than a decade each in conceptualizing and realizing socially engaged projects in Europe, the Middle East, and North America.
Kerem Halbrecht founded 72 Hour Urban Action that created tens of interventions with designers and residents in cities around Europe. He co-founded Just Add People, a group that develops formats for playful spatial reflection. Since 2016 Kerem has conducted research and development for the Goethe Institut in Rotterdam, Kyoto, Los Angeles, and Guadalajara around participation of residents in the design of the built environment.
Maayan Strauss founded the Container Artist Residency in partnership with leading shipping lines — an international residency program that invites artists to travel and create work onboard operating container ships. She worked as the head designer for renowned American artist James Turrell. She designed and oversaw the construction of multiple museum retrospectives, gallery exhibitions, and permanent public and private commissions around the world.
